This detached dwelling is located on top of steep bank overlooking the River Greta valley towards one of Yorkshires famous Three Peaks - Ingleborough. The original dwelling was built with an external balcony at first floor level which offers impressive views of the surrounding landscape. However, the use of the balcony is weather dependant. The proposed development was to carefully remove the balcony and replace with a new glazed infill extension to create an enclosed internal balcony space.

Whilst this project was small in footprint, it was by far from straightforward. Careful consideration was needed to allow the extension to complement the existing dwelling by use of materials, scale and roof form. Significant coordination was also required with the project Structural Engineer for the design and installation of the steel frame structure as well as consideration of the existing timber framed dwelling.

The clients are delighted with the finished result and can now appreciate the stunning views at all times of the year, come rain or shine!!
